NGV International

Enjoy a journey to Japan at the NGV. In this NGV educator-led session students will explore and discuss traditional and contemporary artworks, from Buddhist sculptures to ceramics, fashion and textiles to gain insight into Japan and its rich cultural history and traditions. This engaging introduction to Japanese art and culture will complement student learning in language, visual arts or social studies.

In Term 1 2025, this program can include at no extra cost several artworks and installations by contemporary Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama on display in public areas of the Gallery as part of the ticketed Yayoi Kusama exhibition (16 Dec 2024 – 21 Apr 2025).

This program will be tailored to the level of the students.

Students will:

  • Identify key features of traditional Japanese art.
  • Identify and describe how ideas, beliefs and cultural practices are expressed in Japanese traditional and contemporary art.
  • Compare and contrast aspects of Japanese art, culture and history with their own.

Duration: 1 hour
Cost: $11 per student
