Cartier is one of the world’s most influential jewellery houses, renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship, creative innovation, and iconic design. This landmark exhibition traces Cartier’s evolution from its early years at the turn of the twentieth century through to its most contemporary creations.
Featuring more than exquisite jewels and objects—from necklaces and tiaras to vanity cases and timepieces—the exhibition traces Cartier’s journey from 1900 to the present, displaying them alongside archival drawings and sketches that reveal the intricate design processes behind the Maison’s success.
The contemporary exhibition design will be a collaboration between NGV, Studio Sabine Marcelis and CLOUD, two multidisciplinary design practices based in Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
Developed by the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) in partnership with London’s Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) and in collaboration with Cartier, this exhibition offers rich opportunities for inquiry-based learning exploring the social, cultural, historical, and economic factors that shape the form, function, and aesthetics of these iconic designs.
Tickets for pre-booked groups of primary and secondary school students are $15.00 per student. Tickets for pre-booked tertiary student groups are $39.00 per student. Groups receive one complimentary teacher ticket per fifteen students. Tickets for additional teachers/supervisors are $39.
The cost of exhibition tickets is included in our interactive onsite introductory talks for primary, secondary and tertiary students. Please allow time for viewing the exhibition viewing following your program.
While exhibition visitation times may vary for each school group, we recommend allowing at least 60 minutes to experience the exhibition.

Visiting an exhibition such as CARTIER provides students with a unique opportunity to explore exceptional craftsmanship, creative innovation, and social history through the lens of luxury design. Students are encouraged to look closely at how the Maison uses materials, intricate design processes, and aesthetic evolution to reflect the changing cultural landscape from the turn of the twentieth century to the present day.
The exhibition features an immersive contemporary design, a collaboration between the NGV, Studio Sabine Marcelis, and CLOUD which serves as a backdrop for exquisite design objects such as jewels, timepieces, and vanity cases. By displaying these alongside original archival drawings and sketches, the exhibition offers rich opportunities for inquiry-based learning. Rather than written tasks, consider discussion prompts that invite students to explore the social, cultural, and economic factors that shape the form and function of these iconic designs, reflecting on how jewelry expresses identity, status, and artistic value across generations.
Pencils are permitted in the exhibition if students need to take brief notes. Photography without flash is also permitted.
