Kimono Teacher and Student Programs

4 Jun – 5 Oct 25

NGV International, Ground Level

This exhibition explores the global influence of kimono, showcasing its evolution from traditional Japanese costume to a source of inspiration for contemporary fashion. Highlights include Noh and Kyogen costumes, intricately decorated Edo-period kimono, early Japanese engagements with Western fashion, and works by designers such as Issey Miyake, John Galliano, and Hiroko Takahashi. Alongside garments, the exhibition features contextual works including prints, posters, and decorative arts, and celebrates the materials and techniques that define Japan’s rich textile traditions.
