Top Arts 2020

THE IAN POTTER CENTRE: NGV AUSTRALIA

The annual Top Arts exhibition presents outstanding work completed by student artists as part of their assessment for VCE Art and VCE Studio Arts. Demonstrating their skilful use of materials and evolution of ideas, emerging artists from Victorian schools creatively express their passions and concerns through resolved works of art.

Highlighting the NGV’s commitment to contemporary art and arts education, the exhibition showcases the ideas and attitudes of young people. It includes works in diverse media spanning painting, drawing, sculpture, multimedia and installation.

Student Programs
Introductory Talk and Visual Diary Practice VCE

Mon-Fri, 9am, 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm

Talking Top Arts. An illustrated, interactive presentation with an NGV Educator introducing selected works in the exhibition to explore key curriculum knowledge and skills. Students will learn about the ideas and inspiration behind exhibited works. They will also consider how exhibiting artists developed, refined, and resolved concepts, and used materials, techniques and art processes to realise ideas. This presentation includes a focus on using visual diaries to explore and document ideas and processes.

Folio viewing must be booked separately.

Cost: $5 (45 mins)

Looking deeper. Visit the NGV Learning Studio to look closely at the visual diaries, sketchbooks and folios completed by exhibiting students to meet the VCE Art and Studio Arts study design requirements.
