A behind-the-scenes focus on French Impressionism, addressing key knowledge and skills required for Studio Arts, Unit 4, Area of Study 3 – Art Industry Contexts. Explore the methods and considerations involved in the preparation, presentation and conservation of the exhibition with Meg Slater, Assistant Curator; Michael Varcoe-Cocks, Head of Conservation; Claire Robertson, Senior Marketing Campaign Manager; and the Exhibition Design team who make the magic happen.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and describe the characteristics of an NGV gallery space.
  • Analyse how specific artworks are presented in French Impressionism and discuss the artist’s and gallery curator’s intentions.
  • Analyse and evaluate curatorial considerations, exhibition design and promotional methods involved in preparing and presenting specific artworks in French Impressionism.
  • Analyse and evaluate methods and considerations involved in the conservation of specific artworks in French Impressionism.
