Explore

Gain insights into the art and ideas of Mualgal artist Paula Savage when she joins NGV Senior Curator of First Nations Art, Dr Jessica Clark for an artist talk. Discover how Paula reimagines traditional weaving techniques to create work which is deeply influenced by the reef off her home on Lag Mua (Moa Island) in the Torres Strait.

About the artist
Paula Savage is a senior Mualgal artist from Moa Island in the Torres Strait working in weaving, carving, tie-dying and jewellery making. In 2023, she won the Melbourne Design Week Award for her Reef series which reflects her deep connection to the reefs off the coast of Lag Mua.

This talk is a part of NGV Pacific Community Day. Come and celebrate the creativity and diversity of Victoria’s Pasifika community with a vibrant day of festivities showcasing Pasifika art, culture and community.
