Levels 3-6

Let’s talk about art! From Sally Gabori’s brightly painted odes to Bentinck Island off the coast of Queensland, to Reko Rennie’s neon-lit evocations of the urban environment, the distinctive work of Indigenous artists across Australia reveals diverse perspectives. Explore the different ways artists across Australia use materials and techniques and express ideas about country and culture.

Learning Objectives

  • Use different thinking strategies and activities to generate questions and ideas about works.
  • Compare and contrast the art practices, materials, iconography and techniques used by different Indigenous artists.
  • Consider how ideas about Country (land and waterways) and culture are expressed in different works.
  • Clearly and confidently communicate ideas about Indigenous works to an audience

This program is part of Creative Catalyst, a program for high ability students attending Victorian Government schools.
