Indigenous weaver Cassie Leatham leads children and families in a live interactive weaving workshop inspired by Glenda Nicholl’s Miwi Millo (Good Spirit of the Murray River), 2020 featured in the NGV Triennial. Settle in with the family, share stories with one another and make a start on a woven wall hanging using materials from around your home and garden.

Cassie Leatham is a Taungurung artist, dancer, weaver and educator with a passion for sharing Indigenous people’s cultures. She has exhibited nationally and internationally and her artworks have been acquired by the NGV, Koorie Heritage Trust Collection, and Magistrate’s Court of Victoria.

This program includes an art-making demonstration. Children may like to make along with the artist, we suggest having some materials ready such as scissors, a collection of sticks and natural materials like feathers and leaves, and twine, or raffia. For detailed instructions please refer to this instruction sheet. Alternatively you can watch, take inspiration and create later.
