Australia’s population is growing and ageing. Since the 1950s our life expectancy has increased by almost 30 years and is likely to reach the mid 90s by 2050. This is a good news story and yet this phenomenon is also referred to as an ‘ageing tsunami’. Isn’t it time we were excited by the prospect of reaching our senior years? ‘Fighting ageism through design’ is a discussion with five luminaries from different design industries on the role design might play in the perception of older Australians. We also inquire into the prevalence of ageism across the design industry.
