Ground Level

What can we learn about Australian history from art? Whose perspectives are shown, and whose are missing? Traverse Australia’s past from first contact and colonisation through to Federation with NGV Educators. This onsite program uses artwork from current special exhibitions to bring history to life through visual analysis and storytelling, and explores Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss the impact of colonisation on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Compare and contrast artworks from a range of cultural perspectives
  • Identify the reasons for immigration and discuss its impact on Australian identity
  • Analyse and interpret themes, concepts and ideas in Australian artworks

This program is part of Creative Catalyst, a program for high ability students attending Victorian Government schools.
