Levels 7-10

Enter the world of Sydney-based Japanese artist and illustrator Kentaro Yoshida, in a virtual studio visit and online drawing workshop.

In this interactive program, Kentaro will discuss his artwork, working methods, and how ukiyo-e and manga inspire his work Students will practise their language skills in guided discussion about ukiyo-e and other relevant works in the NGV Collection, and be guided by Kentaro to create their own drawings.

The program will be delivered primarily in English and is suitable for Japanese language learners of all levels.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify and discuss how ideas are expressed in Japanese artworks in the NGV Collection and make connections with their understanding of Japanese language, history and culture
  • Practice Japanese phrases and vocabulary in context to respond to artworks and share views and opinions
  • Learn about inspiration and working methods of a professional artist
  • Create their own artwork, inspired by works in the NGV collection and the artist Kentaro Yoshida
