The typology of the casino creates a “worlding”, which challenges our existing ways of seeing by inscribing new images, narratives and representations of place within a gambling palace. Merve Bedir, adjunct assistant professor at Hong Kong University and co-director of Aformal Academy in Shenzhen, presents her ongoing research of casinos across Asia through their digital overlays, gaming infrastructure, and hyper-evocative interiors that disrupt notions of time and geography.

Through precedents, Bedir highlights key techniques and narratives produced by casino architecture to stimulate the imagination, and wallets, of its inhabitants.
