Pierre Bonnard Exhibition Space

Madeleine Palmer is a Melbourne based painter, who gained her Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) in 2022 at RMIT. Palmer’s work seeks to gently unpick assumptions about reality by exploring the tenuous state of mankind’s disturbance of the natural order in the anthropocene; it sits in a place between benign and malign, beautiful and grotesque, dissolving the borders between fantasy and reality. By imbuing quirky forms with an energy that speaks to the essence of fecundity, her subject matter acts as a vehicle for talking about growth, movement and change in the natural world.

The blockbuster Melbourne Winter Masterpieces® exhibition Pierre Bonnard: Designed by India Mahdavi illuminates Melbourne this winter with a celebration of the artist’s colourful paintings in collaboration with award winning Paris-based designer India Mahdavi. Developed in partnership with Musée d’Orsay, Paris, the show features more than 100 works spanning the late nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century. The works are presented within a contemporary design by India Mahdavi, who has been described as the ‘virtuoso of colour’ and ‘possessor of perfect chromatic pitch’.

Inspired by regional French flavours, the Yering Station Wine Bar in Great Hall and Pommery Champagne Bar in Gallery Kitchen will serve a menu to warm you up, including cheese boards, gruyere croquettes, cassoulet and sweet profiteroles.

Annie Smithers, one of Australia’s most highly regarded chefs, brings a French farmhouse menu to NGV Garden Restaurant. Dine on a menu inspired by Smithers’ award-wining restaurant du Fermier and the Pierre Bonnard: Designed by India Mahdavi exhibition. Book a table.
