NGV FRIDAY NIGHTS: PIERRE BONNARD
Warm up this winter at NGV Friday Nights with Melbourne’s favourite bands and DJs combined with the blockbuster Melbourne Winter Masterpieces® exhibition, Pierre Bonnard: Designed by India Mahdavi.

NGV’s Ground Level is transformed with live music, pop-up bars and dining inspired by French artist Pierre Bonnard and award-winning Paris-based designer India Mahdavi. Explore Bonnard’s colourful artworks with after-hours exhibition access and enjoy live music all in one place.

PERFORMANCES
SWOOPING (HIATUS KAIYOTE)
Great Hall
8–9pm

Swooping is the natural result of a group of inspired musicians riding a wave of their own curiosity and hyper-creativity. Prolonged silence plays a small part (though an integral one) for the 3-time Grammy nominated rhythm section comprised of Simon Mavin (keyboards), Paul Bender (bass guitar), and Perrin Moss (drums, percussion).
When playing under the name ‘Hiatus Kaiyote’, they are celebrated world-wide for their rare combination of technical wizardry and raw sonic force. In the between time, their Swooping project draws us deeper into the headspace of the trio, where their search for sounds spark ideas that are built into entire worlds.

MIKI
Federation Court
6–8pm
9–10pm

Miki has been continually exploring her sound as she goes, providing an array of genres when she plays – everything from 90s breaks and groovy baselines to bouncy tech/progressive house. Her sets showcase her uplifting energy and are a more familiar sound these days in Naarm.

EXHIBITION
The blockbuster Melbourne Winter Masterpieces® exhibition Pierre Bonnard: Designed by India Mahdavi illuminates Melbourne this winter with a celebration of the artist’s colourful paintings in collaboration with award winning Paris-based designer India Mahdavi. Developed in partnership with Musée d’Orsay, Paris, the show features more than 100 works spanning the late nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century. The works are presented within a contemporary design by India Mahdavi, who has been described as the ‘virtuoso of colour’ and ‘possessor of perfect chromatic pitch’.

DINING
Inspired by regional French flavours, the Yering Station Wine Bar in Great Hall and Pommery Champagne Bar in Gallery Kitchen will serve a menu to warm you up, including cheese boards, gruyere croquettes, cassoulet and sweet profiteroles.

ANNIE SMITHERS AT NGV
