NGV FRIDAY NIGHTS: PIERRE BONNARD
Warm up this winter at NGV Friday Nights with Melbourne’s favourite bands and DJs combined with the blockbuster Melbourne Winter Masterpieces® exhibition, Pierre Bonnard: Designed by India Mahdavi.

NGV’s Ground Level is transformed with live music, pop-up bars and dining inspired by French artist Pierre Bonnard and award-winning Paris-based designer India Mahdavi. Explore Bonnard’s colourful artworks with after-hours exhibition access and enjoy live music all in one place.

PERFORMANCES
GLASS BEAMS
Great Hall
8–9pm

The enigmatic Naarm (Melbourne) based Glass Beams radiates a psychedelia rendered with cyclical riffs and dizzying melodies. ‘Mirage’ is the debut release from the artist, showcasing an inclination for cosmic instrumentation, eastern scales and kraut pervaded polyrhythms. Glass Beams studio material awakens into an immersive live show; hypnotic renditions of the songs performed by a masked quartet. We may not know much about the enigmatic Glass Beams, but ‘Mirage’ is one epic inauguration, leaving the listener with more questions than answers.

HENRY GUALA
Federation Court
6–8pm
9–10pm

Henry Guala is a Melbourne based record collector with a fascination for music that often slips through the cracks. He is always armed with a bag of versatility yet an inclination to present leftfield downtempo, jangly bedroom pop, sparse ambience and Australian oddities.

EXHIBITION
The blockbuster Melbourne Winter Masterpieces® exhibition Pierre Bonnard: Designed by India Mahdavi illuminates Melbourne this winter with a celebration of the artist’s colourful paintings in collaboration with award winning Paris-based designer India Mahdavi. Developed in partnership with Musée d’Orsay, Paris, the show features more than 100 works spanning the late nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century. The works are presented within a contemporary design by India Mahdavi, who has been described as the ‘virtuoso of colour’ and ‘possessor of perfect chromatic pitch’.

DINING
Inspired by regional French flavours, the Yering Station Wine Bar in Great Hall and Pommery Champagne Bar in Gallery Kitchen will serve a menu to warm you up, including cheese boards, gruyere croquettes, cassoulet and sweet profiteroles.
