Bach X Reimagined
Live performances at 6.30pm, 7.30pm & 8.30pm
Presented by anon.
‘when I am listening to Bach I frequently get inspired and feel an overwhelming instinct for his insistent rhythm, a cadence seeking something of the infinite.’ – M. C. Escher
Inspired by composer Johann Sebastian Bach’s repetitious compositions, Escher’s art of infinite tessellations mirrors Bach’s music. Referencing this parallel, creative collaboration anon. brings together Australian composers and performing artists to reimagine the works of Bach with live performances, new compositions across baroque, classical and jazz styles and a specially commissioned soundscape.

6–8pm EILISH GILLIGAN (DJ SET)
Eilish Gilligan is a rising songwriter and producer from Melbourne with a string of ingenious and emotional art-pop singles receiving airplay across Triple j, Double J, ABC Radio National, Unearthed and community stations across the country. With her warm, spectral and danceable compositions earning well-deserved praise, Eilish has a keen sense of how deeply devastating a lone voice and some synths can be.
8–10pm ZURI AKOKO
Sydney’s Zuri Akoko draws attention to the delicate details of life. Citing sound design, which she studies, and metaphysical themes as some of her biggest creative influences, she explores the possibilities by pushing sonic boundaries. 2018 has been a busy year working amongst the Australian music scene, releasing a 5 track EP Lunar Phases, being a guest on Triple Js Mix Up and The Kick On, as well as featured interviews and mixes on FBI Radios-Switch. Expect a 2-hour show debuting a set packed with 32 original tracks created especially for NGV Friday Nights.
Wander through NGV’s 2018 Architecture Commission Doubleground and discover chasm-like passageways, tilted embankments and a bamboo garden inspired by the building’s original Bamboo Court. Designed by Muir architecture and Openwork.
The Julian Opie exhibition is open at NGV Friday Nights until 15 February 2019.
