Ground Level

Are you an international student interested in exploring local art and culture, practicing conversational English, and meeting new people?

We would love to see you at NGV Language Exchange at the National Gallery of Victoria. Join educators at the Gallery each month for conversations about art and design from Australia and around the world, and creative artmaking activities.

All levels of English are welcome, and no prior art knowledge or experience is required. Sessions are free but bookings are essential.

This week, we discover the wonderful world of fashion at NGV International. Explore paintings, garments and other works that reveal fascinating stories of historical and contemporary fashion trends and styles.  Share your own ideas about fashion and style. This session includes a studio workshop led by Melbourne-based artist Scotty So. Create your own fun fashion accessory inspired by designs and decorative details of works in the NGV Collection.

About the Artist

Scotty So is a Melbourne-based artist from Hong Kong. He works across diverse media, including painting, photography, video and drag performance. Often humorous in nature, his work draws from cultural traditions, historical and contemporary fashion and ideas around identity. So’s work has been displayed in Hong Kong, Greater China, Australia and most recently in the NGV Triennial.
