It’s the event of the school year, Art Party is back! Bring your friends and enjoy a night of music, dancing, art, hands-on activities and the chance to meet other creative young people at this teen-exclusive event.

In celebration of the world-premiere exhibition Westwood | Kawakubo, this Art Party is devoted to all things fashion and design. From pop culture to punk, bold fashion moments to deep dives into the archives, you’re invited to explore the groundbreaking designs of fashion visionaries Vivienne Westwood and Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons.

Parent and Guardian Information

Art Party is a teen-exclusive event for secondary school students aged 12 to 18 years with a valid school ID. Please bring your secondary school ID or Victorian Student Pass on the night. If you don’t have either forms of ID or would like to speak to a staff member, please contact us via the details below.

The Westwood | Kawakubo exhibition presents an immersive experience which uses flashing lights and other lighting effects, large moving image screens, mirrors, and a fairly loud soundtrack in places. The exhibition features fashion garments and accessories, plus archival video and photography content. Some artworks depict nudity and sexual themes.

MUSIC AND PERFORMANCE

With prizes to win throughout the night, grab your friends and dance the night away to live music and DJ sets, or sing your heart out in a karaoke session.

 DJ Sets by Jordz Great Hall

Feel the beat with DJ sets by Jordz as she lights up the Great Hall with her electrifying mix of pop anthems.

 Karaoke with Marawa Let’s Party! Gallery Space

7–8pm
Grab your friends and sing along to your favourite tunes at karaoke, hosted by Marawa the Amazing.

Rebel Without a Clasp: Paper Jewellery & Accessories Great Hall

Channel Vivenne Westwood’s rebellious DIY energy and 1970s punk aesthetic to create bold paper jewellery.

 Pin Your Heart on Your Sleeve: Badgemaking Gallery Kitchen

People have used badges throughout fashion history as a form of self-expression, and now it’s your turn!

Guided by illustrator Angie Réhe, step inside the exhibition and try your hand at fashion illustration.

LEARN, MAKE FRIENDS AND RELAX

Step inside the world of iconic fashion designers, make friends and share your knowledge in trivia, or take a break in a lower sensory space.

Lower Sensory Space Women Photographers Exhibition Space

Explore the exhibition, relax on a bean bag or engage in some quiet drawing inside the low sensory space.

What should I wear?

Art Party is your night to wear what makes you feel good. Dress up or dress down, or take inspiration from iconic designers Vivienne Westwood and Rei Kawakubo. Come as a character, showcase your own fashion designs, or wear your favourite outfit.

NGV design store discount

For one night only, the NGV design store will be offering teens a 10% discount (exclusions apply).

Food & drink

A selection of drinks and food, including low-gluten, vegan and vegetarian options is available for purchase at the Gallery Kitchen. A free water station is also located in the Gallery. This is strictly an alcohol and drug-free event.

NGV Teens: Art Party is located at NGV International, 180 St Kilda Road, Melbourne. Your ticket gives you access between 6–9pm.
