Rose Anna Jan-Gee Louey is an Australian, Chinese artist with a background in printmaking and etching from the Victorian College of the Arts. It is this history with an etching needle that informed her love for mark-making and the language it conveys. Her paintings and murals reflect her inclination for the ethereal; often featuring symbolic reveries on a large scale. There is a nod to an extreme girlishness in her work; sweeping pink and flowers that intercept and stain.
Symbolism in vases, butterflies, plants and curious faces sprawl out on her found materiality. She will pretty much use anything as a base whether it be bare walls or scrap paper. This way of using ink and paint has been her way to release, draw oxygen, be sad; and to embrace magic.
