Collected over his lifetime, Rembrandt’s ‘Kunst Caemer’, translated as ‘Art chamber’ or ‘Cabinet of curiosities’, was made up of artworks, historical artefacts and natural objects from across the world.
During his career, Rembrandt constantly drew on it as a source of inspiration for his own work, as well as in his teaching.
NGV curator Petra Kayser leads a tour of Rembrandt: True to Life, introducing audiences to the seventeenth-century Dutch master and taking a closer look into Rembrandts collecting and how, amongst other factors, it contributed to his eventual bankruptcy.
