This program takes place virtually

Immerse your students in Japanese and Chinese culture through art and design. Discover opportunities for authentic language learning with practical strategies and activities for upper primary and middle school teachers. This virtual professional learning program includes an interactive discussion of works in the NGV’s Japanese and Chinese Collection and links to our online resources for Japanese and Mandarin learners.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop practical strategies which encourage students to practice language skills in authentic discussions about art and design
  • Analyse and interpret Japanese and Chinese art and design to enrich students’ understanding of ideas, beliefs, and practices
  • Develop activities and discussions which build students’ intercultural understanding
  • Support students to use their language skills to describe, analyse and interpret artworks
