Innovative Printmaking
For the French Impressionists, innovation and experimentation expanded beyond canvas and paint. They also experimented with printmaking, pushing the medium in new and innovative directions. Edgar Degas’ interest in printmaking was infectious. He influenced artists around him, sharing technical advice and even printing some of their plates. Explore how Degas experimented with different printing techniques to achieve Mary Cassatt at the Louvre: The Etruscan Gallery, 1879–80.
