Join playwright Christine Lambrianidis to develop a monologue that shares the intriguing thoughts and backstory of your own unique character. Encounter diverse voices of Australian playwrights and be inspired by artworks in the NGV Collection to find your own theatrical voice. Come ready to express yourself through one of the world’s oldest theatrical forms.

Learning Objectives

  • Respond creatively to artworks in the NGV Collection to develop the voice of a character
  • Experiment with theatrical conventions and consider the ways these can contribute to playwriting, in particular monologues
  • Plan, draft and produce texts appropriate to audience and purpose
  • Share and publish original works

Speaker: Christine Lambrianidis

As a writer and researcher with more than ten years’ experience teaching senior English and Literature, Christine Lambrianidis offers both academic and practical insights into dramatic writing. Her first play, The Woman in His Mind, was performed at La Mama Theatre. She was a playwright-in-residence and script assessor at Melbourne Writers Theatre. Her play, The Debt, has had readings at La Mama and Five.Point.One. The play was shortlisted for the Deborah Cass Prize and Saroyan/Paul Human Rights Prize. Christine has completed her PhD in Theatre and Performance at Monash University and has also published articles for The Conversation, Neos Kosmos, Idiom, Lot’s Wife and The Harold Pinter Review journal.
