Join Melbourne author Kalinda Ashton to imagine your very own dystopian world. Take inspiration from the NGV Collection and literary texts to explore the dystopian genre and creatively respond to societal issues.

Learning Objectives

  • Respond imaginatively to artworks in the NGV Collection through short story writing
  • Use relevant language features and precise vocabulary to show an understanding of genre and voice
  • Review, edit and refine writing for control of content, organisation of ideas, structure and vocabulary
  • Develop confidence in sharing and presenting published work

About the Author 

Dr Kalinda Ashton is a novelist, short story writer and reviewer who now teachers English, Literature and Philosophy to secondary school students. She taught university students literary theory, Australian Literature and creative writing for more than a decade and holds a PhD in creative writing and Literature. Her first novel The Danger Game was awarded national and international prizes and she has published more than twenty short stories in anthologies and journals including Best Australian Stories, Meanjin, Overland and Kill Your Darlings.

This program is part of Creative Catalyst, a program for high ability students attending Victorian Government schools.
