2021 Frank Lloyd Wright Appeal

THANK YOU

2021 Frank Lloyd Wright Appeal

Thank you to our community for your contribution towards the appeal to acquire Peacock Chair from the Imperial Hotel, Tokyo c. 1921 by acclaimed American architect-designer Frank Lloyd Wright.

Peacock chair was designed as part of Wright’s work on the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, completed in 1923. This building was one of the largest commissions of his career and affirmed his position as one of the most universally acclaimed architect-designers of the early twentieth-century. Wright designed both the building and its interior, including the furniture, carpets and tablewares.

This chair is a wonderful demonstration of French and Japanese design and is an important addition to the NGV’s collection of international Decorative Arts, specifically early twentieth-century Modernism. This will be the third work by Wright to enter the NGV Collection, and we are grateful for your role in expanding our representation of his work.

We warmly acknowledge the below supporters for their generosity in enabling this acquisition to enter the NGV Collection. In particular we recognise the leadership support of the Joe White Bequest.
