What is artificial intelligence (AI) and how is it being used in the creative sector? This year’s NGVWA Annual Lecture will see two digital leaders in their respective fields discuss AI’s various forms, ethical considerations, accessibility and collaborations within the art world. The evening will also include discussion around the cultural impact of advanced technology in the creative sector and its potential long-term implications – both good and bad.

Rachael Neumann, technology investor
Neumann is a co-founder and partner of Flying Fox Ventures, an early-stage investment firm supporting Australian and New Zealand founders with global ambition. She plays across many parts of the startup ecosystem, previously as Head of Startups in Australia & New Zealand for Amazon Web Services and prior to that, Managing Director of Eventbrite ANZ. Matching her passion for startups is her love for modern art, and she proudly serves on the Council of Trustees for the NGV.
Sam Leach, artist
Leach’s works are informed by the canon of art history, science, and philosophy. His work is an ongoing investigation of the relationship between humans, machines and animals. Leach’s most recent bodies of work incorporate machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) fusing the tropes and gestures of paintings with the mechanics and gaze of the future. He is currently an artist-in-residence at the National Museum of Australia, Canberra, researching how AI might activate museological collections within a social context.
The NGVWA is a group of volunteers who fundraise through events to support the NGV Collection.
