Unit 3 – Outcome 1 – Criteria 1 –

Preparation of an exploration proposal and work plan that formulates the content and parameters of an individual studio process.

Cinaya’s exploration proposal and work plan use art terminology to succinctly develop written and visual material that connects and justifies ideas about self-portraiture to explain how her individual studio process will be structured and managed.

Evidence of exploration:

  • Cinaya’s exploration proposal is in the range of 750 – 1000 words.
  • Visual material including artworks by Darren Sylvester and Euan Macleod are cited and referenced to support the ideas, subject matter and conceptual possibilities explained in the exploration proposal.
  • The exploration proposal and work plan are placed at the start of the Unit 3 Visual Diary.

Unit 3 – Outcome 1 – Criteria 1 –

Cinaya’s exploration proposal addresses the following content:

  • the focus and subject matter to be developed;
  • the ideas to be explored;
  • the art forms through which the studio process will be developed;
  •  the analysis and interpretation of sources of inspiration relevant to student ideas;
  • conceptual possibilities;
  • the use of art elements, art principles and aesthetic qualities to be investigated;
  • the materials and techniques to be explored and developed;
  • planning of the studio process.
  • At the end of the exploration proposal, there is a work plan that provides a weekly overview to explain how the studio process will be structured and managed.

Interpretation of and response to sources of inspiration to explore, develop and refine ideas throughout the studio process.

There are detailed annotations and citations that evaluate how the exploration, development and refinement of individual ideas, aesthetic qualities, materials and techniques in a studio process.

Evidence of exploration, development and refinement:

  • There are written and visual references in the form of annotations and citations that explain how artistic and personal influences will be used and interpreted throughout the studio process.
  • Visual material including artworks by Edward Hopper is cited and referenced to support the ideas, subject matter and conceptual possibilities discussed in the visual diary.
  • The personal inspiration that references the concept of disconnectedness is documented through mind maps and visual imagery in the visual diary.
  • All forms of Inspiration and influences are clearly linked to the ideas expressed in the exploration proposal.

Unit 3 – Outcome 2 – Criteria 3 –

Exploration of conceptual possibilities in the studio process that develops individual and personal subject matter as discussed in the exploration proposal and work plan.

A range of related conceptual possibilities has been clarified and documented to explore, develop and refine individual and personal subject matter and ideas in a studio process.

Evidence of exploration, development and refinement:

  • Exploration of conceptual possibilities linked to the selection and development of individual and personal subject matter discussed in the exploration proposal and work plan.
  • In response to conceptual possibilities, a range of personal and individual subject matter has been progressively explored, developed and refined through documentation in the studio process, including disconnectedness from one’s self and society as well as social anxiety.

Unit 3 – Outcome 2 – Criteria 3 –

Evidence of exploration, development and refinement:

  • Exploration of conceptual possibilities linked to the selection and development of individual and personal subject matter discussed in the exploration proposal and work plan.
  • In response to conceptual possibilities, a range of personal and individual subject matter has been progressively explored, developed and refined through documentation in the studio process, including disconnectedness from one’s self and society as well as social anxiety.

Unit 3 – Outcome 2 – Criteria 4 –

Apply skills to explore art elements and principles, materials, techniques and processes that communicate individual ideas and demonstrate aesthetic qualities.

Considered and accomplished application of skills in the exploration and refinement of art elements and principles, materials, techniques, processes and aesthetic qualities that demonstrate connections between art form/s and individual ideas.

Evidence of exploration, development and refinement:

  • Cinaya’s use of materials, techniques and processes relevant to a range of approaches to painting is discussed in the exploration proposal
  • art elements and art principles are used to demonstrate aesthetic qualities relating to loneliness and isolation.
  • Throughout the visual diary, the application and refinement of skills in the use of materials, techniques and processes relevant to painting are evident.
  • use of painting materials, techniques and processes help to demonstrate aesthetic qualities and develop visual language.

Unit 3 – Outcome 2 – Criteria 4 –

Evidence of exploration, development and refinement:

  • Cinaya’s use of materials, techniques and processes relevant to a range of approaches to painting is discussed in the exploration proposal

Documentation of exploratory and developmental work in the studio process clarifies ideas to identify and evaluate potential directions.

Cinaya has presented an organised collection of exploratory and developmental work in a visual diary to progressively advance and elaborate upon the individual ideas explained in the exploration proposal and work plan.

Cinaya has identified and evaluated a range of potential directions to clarify and refine individual ideas in the studio process and concisely explain the development of future artworks.

Evidence of exploration, development and refinement:

  • Cinaya’s written and visual documentation includes research, trials and experiments relating to the ideas expressed in the exploration proposal and work plan.
  • Cinaya’s work is presented in a visual diary.
  • A range of potential directions are clearly numbered and titled and easily identified in the visual diary.
  • The visual diary is paginated and sometimes pages are dated
  • At least two potential directions have been identified and evaluated using art terminology.

Unit 3 – Outcome 2 – Criteria 5 –

Evidence of exploration, development and refinement:

  • Cinaya’s written and visual documentation includes research, trials and experiments relating to the ideas expressed in the exploration proposal and work plan.
  • Cinaya’s work is presented in a visual diary.
  • A range of potential directions are clearly numbered and titled and easily identified in the visual diary.
  • The visual diary is paginated and sometimes pages are date.
  • At least two potential directions have been identified and evaluated using art terminology.

Unit 4 – Outcome 1 – Criteria 6 –

Use of selected and evaluated potential directions in the resolution of future artworks.

Potential directions have been considered and analysed to resolve ideas and subject matter that will lead to the cohesive refinement of art elements and principles, aesthetic qualities and materials and techniques in the development of at least two finished artworks.

Organised and succinct written and visual documentation considers and communicates planning for the resolution of at least two finished artworks. In Cinaya’s case, three artworks have been developed as a response to outcome one.

Evidence of resolution:

  • A brief written outline should be presented at the start of Unit 4 to explain the use of selected Potential Directions and how they will be used to resolve two artworks (This is not included in the word count for the evaluation for Unit 4, Outcome 2).
  • At least two potential directions are used as the basis for the resolution of at least two finished artworks that link to the exploration proposal. Cinaya has used potential direction one to develop artwork 3.
  • Documented planning for the resolution of finished artworks is presented for authentication purposes. This can be presented at the end of the Unit 3 Visual Diary or in another visual diary or folder clearly labelled Unit 4 Authentication Material.

Unit 4 – Outcome 1 – Criteria 7 –

Application of materials, techniques and processes appropriate to the selected art forms and their inherent characteristics in the resolution of at least two finished artworks.

Consistent and refined application of materials, techniques and processes that reflect a comprehensive understanding of the inherent characteristics of the art form/s leading to the development of at least two finished artworks.

Evidence of Resolution:

  • Application of materials and techniques in the resolution of at least two finished artworks based upon selected and evaluated Potential Directions.
  • Appropriate use of the inherent characteristic of materials relevant to the art form identified in the Exploration Proposal.

Unit 4 – Outcome 1 – Criteria 8 –

Demonstration and resolution of aesthetic qualities in relation to the communication and realisation of ideas in at least two finished artworks.

Consistent and resolved aesthetic qualities to communicate individual ideas and interpret personal subject matter in at least two finished artworks.

Evidence of Resolution:

  • Resolution of aesthetic qualities and personal subject matter to communicate individual ideas in at least two finished artworks through the consistent and considered application of art elements and art principles.

Unit 4 – Outcome 1 – Criteria 9 –

Demonstration of the cohesive relationship between at least two finished artworks.

Consistent, cohesive and unified relationships are established through the presentation of at least two finished artworks. In Cinaya’s case, three artworks have been presented in response to outcome one.

Evidence of presentation:

  • The presentation of at least two artworks is cohesive and linked by themes and ideas. Cinaya has chosen to present three artworks for assessment.
  • As referenced in the exploration proposal and work plan, cohesive relationships in the two artworks may be established through the depiction of subject matter and/or aesthetic qualities and/or application of materials, techniques and processes.
  • Cinaya has carefully considered the way the three paintings are presented to enhance the overall cohesiveness of the artworks and emphasied their connectedness through the choice of subject matter, materials, techniques and aesthetic qualities.
  • Visual and written documentation about these decisions is presented in the Unit 4 Authentication Material.

Unit 4 – Outcome 2 – Criteria 10 –

Written documentation that evaluates and reflects on the studio process.

The evaluation uses considered art terminology to critique, reflect upon and justify the studio process selected and to clarify the presentation at least two finished artworks.

Evidence of Presentation:

  • The evaluation is in the range of 750 – 1000 words.
  • The document includes visual references to the potential directions that form the basis of the two finished artworks.
  • Cinaya has clearly labelled each of the potential direction/s used to develop individual artworks at the start of the evaluation document.
  • The evaluation must be presented at the end of the Unit 4 Authentication Material.

 

The evaluation document must include the following:

  • Description of focus subject matter and ideas in at least two finished artworks.
  • Visual evidence of selected potential directions in at least two finished artworks.
  • Evaluation of the contribution of potential directions to the resolution of artworks.
  • Analysis of the realisation and communication of ideas in at least two finished artworks.
  • Evaluation of the resolution of materials, techniques and aesthetic qualities used to communicate ideas.
  • Evaluation of the cohesive relationships between artworks.
  • Evaluation of the presentation of at least two artworks.
  • The presentation of at least two finished artworks may include a discussion of the space the artworks will be displayed, lighting, wall colour and arrangement or sequence of the artworks in the space through illustrations, diagrams, images or photographs.

Unit 4 – Outcome 2 – Criteria 10 –

Evidence of Presentation:

  • The evaluation is in the range of 750 – 1000 words.
  • The document includes visual references to the potential directions that form the basis of the two finished artworks.
  • Cinaya has clearly labelled each of the potential direction/s used to develop individual artworks at the start of the evaluation document.
  • The evaluation must be presented at the end of the Unit 4 Authentication Material.
