On behalf of the NGV Foundation, we warmly invite you to join us online for an exploration of the NGV’s acclaimed Old Master Drawings Collection.
In this special online discussion, Prints and Drawings curators Cathy Leahy, Petra Kayser and Jessica Cole will examine some of the different traditions of drawing in the pre-1800 period. Artists used drawing to give expression to ideas and to depict the visible world, and the works they created ranged in function from preparatory studies, to independent works of art including portraits and landscapes. Gain insight into some of the hidden treasures within the NGV Collection by artists including Annibale Carracci, François Boucher and Canaletto.
This event will also introduce an important body of work by American artist Richard Estes which the NGV hopes to acquire. Estes was one of the founding artists of the Photorealist movement and his Urban landscapes I 1972 is a landmark suite of eight colour screenprints presenting coolly detached and highly constructed urban streetscapes.
