About this work
Frank Lloyd Wright’s two-volume folio of lithographs Executed Buildings and Designs, also known as the Wasmuth Portfolio, is recognised as one of the most significant publications on twentieth-century architecture and design. The portfolio marked the first publication of Wright’s architectural designs and featured many of his Prairie-style houses. Despite its significance, questions remain over the authorship of the drawings, or renders, as little is known about their production.
There were numerous renderers working in Wright’s studio at the time, and it has been suggested that Birch Burdette Long, William E. Drummond, Harry Robinson and Marion Mahony all contributed. While not inscribed with her monogram, plate 15 has also been attributed to Mahony due to her distinctive rendering style, which emphasised the natural environment and was heavily inspired by Japanese wood-block prints.
