About this work

Breeches, or short pants worn just below the knee, were worn from the late sixteenth century to the early nineteenth century. During the Regency era, breeches, pantaloons and trousers worn by men were constructed with a front flap known as a fall front. As the century progressed, breeches were increasingly reserved for evening wear or court dress – a practice that continued until the mid century.
