About this work

The lithographic prints in this book are based on a series of original drawings. Like Prudence Flint, John Brack was deeply committed to the practice of drawing, often stating that ‘of all the artist’s devices drawing is the chief, the only one that cannot be dispensed with’. Several years ago, Flint traded one of her paintings for two lithographs from this series with a gallerist. She describes the prints as having an inspiring presence in her home studio: ‘I love living with them. I think it really influenced me because, at the time, I was doing all horizontals and profiles, and then I think just from having them around I started tilting my angles.’
