About this work
The palette of colour enamels favoured during and after the Kangxi imperial reign of the seventeenth and eighteenth century is known in the West famille verte (the green family). It is characterised by the use of a fine translucent green in a variety of shades and an opaque red supplemented by touches of yellow, violet, sepia and blue. This magnificent example features exotic animals, such as tigers and deer, and mythical creatures in stylised landscapes.
