About this work
Since she began exhibiting in the late 1980s, Lee Bul has mined performance and sculpture to investigate ideas related to the body. Lee’s works often provoke reflection on biotechnology and the relationship between reality and fantasy in science. This immersive installation extends the artist’s transition from the cyborgs she produced in the late 1990s to the unsettling and strangely beautiful hybrid beings she created in the early 2000s. Here, the fusion of mechanical and organic forms is inspired by insects, biology and botany.
