Curated by the team at Denfair, Melbourne’s boutique trade event for contemporary design, Design Loop is new program of instore exhibitions by a selection of Melbourne’s best design showrooms. Responding to the theme ‘Celebration of Material’ participating showrooms focus on the history, rationale and emotional quality of materials within the design process.
Design, in particular furniture design, offers a tangible relationship with the designer’s choice of materials. Although design is often judged only by our visual senses, often the real qualities inherent in the design are discovered once we engage with the pieces using our bodies.
In order to appreciate the engagement a designer has with the materials they use, Design Loop presents a range of installations that emphasise the dialogue between designer and materiality – from fabric, leather, and wood to other raw materials commonly used in design.
Denfair Design Loop runs from 15-25 March. Please check opening times, and register for free, via the DENFAIR website. During busy periods at showrooms, ticket holders will have priority entry to visit design installations.
