Founded in 1975, The Fitzroy Housing Repair Advisory Service (FHRAS) was an architect-led community service providing free information, advice and referral on housing repair and building issues for those who could otherwise not afford it, while conserving at-risk housing stock in the ageing fabric of Fitzroy. The FHRAS was a local response to a global movement of architectural activism and community empowerment of its time.
Through a series of artefacts and discussions inspecting the work of the FHRAS, this exhibition explores a definition of the architect as custodian of the built environment and communities through acts of care, repair and maintenance.
