NGV Friday Nights returns this summer during Keith Haring | Jean-Michel Basquiat: Crossing Lines paying homage to the 1980s and New York downtown. Live DJs spotlight an 80s music moment each week, mixed in with drag performances, classic cocktails and New York City street food, ending with all out 80s tracks in the NGV Garden.

6–10pm
Keith Haring | Jean-Michel Basquiat: Crossing Lines presents the work of two of the most significant and influential artists of the late twentieth century, revealing fascinating insights into their unique visual languages and the many intersections between their lives, practices and ideas. KAWS: Companionship in the Age of Loneliness is not open during NGV Friday Nights.

6–8pm
Golden Age Hip Hop | Paul Gorrie
Paul Gorrie (Gunai/Kurnai/Yorta Yorta) takes audiences back to 1980s NYC to reminisce the golden age of hip hop. Based in Naarm on Wurundjeri Country, Gorrie is an emerging filmmaker, musician, DJ, youth project worker and radio presenter.

Unconventional Methods of Making | Exhibition Talk
NGV Curatorial Project Officer Meg Slater reflects on a selection of important works applied to a range of unusual supports, dedicated to the signature motifs and symbols adopted by Haring and Basquiat.

Emerging Queer | La Trobe University
Vice-Chancellor’s Fellow Dennis Altman discusses the emerging queer cultural world of early 1980s USA.

8–10pm
NYC Jazz | Loure
Loure’s New York jazz-infused DJ set captures the genre as it evolved throughout the 80s. An oscillating performer, Loure’s many music projects exist beyond the confines of any one genre.
