MUSIC RESIDENCIES

NGV Friday Nights will be home to five music residencies this winter, each taking turns to curate performances across three slots every Friday night. Residents and their hand-picked musical guests invite you on a unique music journey.

Joseph Tawadros

Fri 14 – 28 Jun

Taking residence the first three weeks of Friday Nights is acclaimed composer, oud virtuoso and eight-time ARIA Award winner Joseph Tawadros. Joseph performs original, semi-improvised compositions that seamlessly blend Arabic modes with Western classical, jazz, world, folk, metal and bluegrass across three weeks and nine unique sets.

Australian Art Orchestra

Fri 5 – 26 Jul

New musical provocateurs, Australian Art Orchestra bring together a visionary set of ensembles, assembled from a variety of its core members, collaborators, and artists in the broader community. Expect jazz, rap, folk music and beyond.

Stani Goma

Fri 2 – 16 Aug

A champion of the rich and diverse sounds of the African continent, Stani Goma draws upon his wealth of knowledge and passion to present Flight 1067 to Africa – PBS’s iconic and long-running show dedicated to African music.

Tempo Rubato

Fri 23 Aug – 13 Sep

From a warehouse in Brunswick to the NGV, Tempo Rubato are bringing their ambient, electronic take on classical music to Friday Nights, presenting a diverse and eclectic line-up.

Music in Exile

Fri 20 Sep – 4 Oct

Beloved not-for-profit record label and artist community, Music in Exile bring their artist-first approach to NGV, offering a hand-picked series of performances that brilliantly reflect the myriad viewpoints and experiences to be found in Australian society.
