Modern Forms
Presented by NGV

NGV International

Free entry

The exhibition and photobook by Warsaw-based artist Nicolas Grospierre offers a fresh and critical perspective on modern architecture. His photographs dwell on unfamiliar aspects of post-war design that speak of some of the disparate forces that have shaped the twentieth century. These include the architectural phenomenon of Polish brutalist churches, the utopian Israeli modernism built on kibbutzim, and the Oscar Niemeyer-designed International Fairgrounds in Lebanon, never completed due to the outbreak of civil war. Presented as a series of geometric shapes, the architectural forms photographed by Grospierre have become ubiquitous features in the landscape and an expression of modernism’s achievements and failures in delivering a better world. Curated by Elias Redstone and Alona Pardo, this exhibition is installed within the NGV Design Store for the duration of Melbourne Design Week
