NGV Friday Nights returns this winter with exclusive late night access to MoMA at NGV. Featuring a line-up of international and home-grown acts presented by the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, experience art, music and dining inspired by the city that never sleeps.

LINDA MAY HAN OH & FABIAN ALMAZAN

Linda May Han Oh first began playing piano and bassoon before picking up the electric bass at fifteen. She went on to study at the W.A. Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) before completing her Masters at the Manhattan School of Music in 2008. Linda has performed with musicians such as Joe Lovano, Vijay Iyer, Dave Douglas, Kenny Barron, Geri Allen, and Terri Lyne Carrington. Based in New York with an active international touring schedule, she is currently the bassist with guitarist, Pat Metheny.

Fabian Almazan found his musical roots as a child in his homeland of Havana where he first became involved in the classical piano tradition. After moving to Miami, Fabian studied at the New World School of the Arts High School from 1998 to 2002. Since 2007 Fabian has been the pianist for Terence Blanchard’s various bands, including the E-Collective which was nominated for a Grammy in 2016. He has toured North and South America, Asia, Africa, Australia and Europe extensively and has performed with artists such as Linda May Han Oh, Gretchen Parlato, John Hollenbeck, Paquito D’Rivera, Mark Guiliana, Dave Douglass, Chris Dingman, David Sanchez and Ambrose Akinmusire.

Linda and Fabian will perform with performance staff – Rob Burke, Jordan Murray, Paul Williamson and Dave Beck – from The Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music, Monash University.

Angus and Harriett
6–7pm and 7.45–8.45pm

Angus Gray is an instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, producer and arranger based in Melbourne. His piano skills are highly sought after on the jazz, funk, and blues music scene, and he is a recipient of the Will Poskitt Piano Scholarship and Lionel Gell Foundation Scholarship for Jazz and Improvisation at The University of Melbourne. Harriett Allcroft is an Australian vocalist and composer, known for her mesmerising yet light-hearted style. Originally from Adelaide and now based in Melbourne, Harriett performs original contemporary jazz and re-arrangements of Australian jazz tunes with her trademark playfulness and whimsy.
