Write About Art

Mon–Fri, 10am, 11.30am, 1pm & 2.30pm
Levels 10–12
NGV International & The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia

Are you looking for ways to help your students write effectively about art? Inspired by works on display in the Gallery, this NGV educator-led program is designed to build students’ literacy skills through a focus on visual description, analysis and interpretation of artworks, and an introduction to strategies for creating compelling and descriptive texts that clearly communicate ideas about art.
This program begins with a seminar, during which students examine and discuss the elements of effective writing, followed by practical writing activities in the Gallery.

Students will:

  • Identify and discuss the characteristics of writing that communicates ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Describe, analyse and interpret works of art from different cultural, historical and contemporary contexts.
  • Understand and apply practical writing strategies to create analytical and descriptive passages inspired by works of art and design.

Duration: 2 hours
Cost: $22 per student
