Kids Space: An Excellent Adventure

In 2012 the NGV will take children on a journey, inspired by a time when sailing ships explored the seven seas, with the launch of Kids Space: An Excellent Adventure.

An Excellent Adventure invites children to climb aboard with our courageous adventurers and discover treasures, stories, myths and legends from ancient worlds.

Children and the families can enjoy the NGV Collection, examining the intricacies of the ushabti figures from Egypt, Asian symbols and ancient stories recorded on artworks from the Mediterranean.

Children from 0-8 are also encouraged to participate in self-led activities provided to guide them through the exhibition, including Egyptian themed rubbing plates and opportunities to tip toe through constellations on the floor.

Frances Lindsay, Deputy Director, NGV said: “This exciting exhibition space introduces children to the richness of the arts at a young age, inspiring their imaginations.

“The Gallery has always offered an outstanding range of high quality programs and activities designed to introduce young children to the visual arts. As a devoted kids’s Gallery, NGV Kids Space brings children, families and art together in a fun and creative environment”, said Ms Lindsay.

NGV Kids Space has an engaging program of events and activities planned to coincide with the exhibition. Please visit for up to date information.

Kids Space: An Excellent Adventure is on display at NGV Kids Space, NGV International until 3 February 2013. Open 10am–5pm, Wed–Mon.  Entry is free.
