For millennia artists, designers and craftspeople have looked to, and relied on, nature for the space, materials and inspiration to live and work.

The many ways creative practitioners interpret and utilise nature in their work can be shaped by any number of contexts, experiences and attitudes. Working with nature means different things to different people.

Hear curator of Indigenous Art, Hannah Presley together with artist Geoff Nees and designers Talin Hazbar and Elliot Bastianon discuss a selection of works premiered at the NGV Triennial, and the different ways of engaging with the materials, processes and forces of the living world to give form to ideas and tackle urgent issues of our time.

Together they consider the deep cultural histories embodied in creating in collaboration with nature; and spiral through time, perspectives and place to discuss what this kind of creative collaboration might bring to our contemporary lives.

This program was part of Triennial Conversations, which took place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 December to mark the opening of NGV Triennial 2020.
