Teachers (Years 9-12)

Analysing arguments can be challenging for students. Unpacking and describing how visual images persuade audiences can help build analytical and language skills useful for analysing arguments in other texts. Through a series of scaffolded activities using works in the NGV Collection, teachers will explore how artists use elements and principles like colour, composition, point of focus, tone and context to communicate and persuade.

Duration: 1 hour

Cost: $20

Learning Objectives:

  • Analyse how artists utilise elements and principles of art and design to persuade or position an audience
  • Develop an understanding of the ways that artists construct meaning and how this elicits an audience’s reaction
  • Use visual evidence to appropriately support analysis
