Africa Fashion

Call for participation

The call for archival photographs to be featured in the exhibition is now closed.

Opening May 2024, Africa Fashion will be the most extensive exhibition of African fashions presented in an Australian art institution to date and features more than 200 artworks from across the continent, including couture, bespoke tailoring and ready-to wear garments, textiles, adornments, photography, and film.

The NGV invites you to share your family photos for inclusion in this landmark show coming from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

What we are looking for

We are seeking to include photographs that showcase the fashion histories of Australian diasporic communities taken during the independence and liberation years (mid 1950s–1994).

If you do not have access to photos, but would still like to share your fashion story, please feel free to email us at the link below.

How the photos will be displayed

Selected photos and videos will be displayed digitally on a screen within the exhibition. The images will be accompanied by a caption that identifies the person/people and tells their fashion story.
